Xiang Ya Stomatological college, the former department of stomatology of Hunan Medical University, was established in May 23 2002. It has 92 staff, including 10 professors, 25 associate professors, 32 lecturers and other experts. It now has 276 students, including 216 ones for five-year-grade, and 60 for seven-year-grade; 33 master candidates and 4 doctoral candidates. Professor Song ai li is the secretary of Party and professor Jian xin chun is the president. The college owns an administrative office, a basic stomatological department, a clinical stomatological department, a dental lab, a stomatological research center which includes oral biology research room, oral cancer research room and oral histological engineering research room and 11 teaching and research sections which are oral anatomy and physiology, oral histology and pathology, dental material science, oral biology, endodontics, periodontal and oral mucosal diseases, pediatric dental diseases and preventive dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral radiology, oral prosthodontics and oral orthodontics. The college has a multifunction building which acts as teaching, laboratories, research and administration, and three clinics & wards which be provided with the most modern treatment facilities and last models of medical equipment for the delivery of advanced stomatological treatment, teaching and research.

The college has two postgraduate programmes of master degree, including basic oral science and clinical oral science, and now we are applying for the doctorate degree of oral science. It has 2 doctoral candidate’s supervisors, 10 master candidate’s supervisors, 12 researching subjects and an optimal academic echelon head by famous experts. The president of college, doctoral supervisor, professor Jian xin chun, is invited as the vice chief editor of《Journal of Oral Science Research》. 9 experts are invited as the editorial members of professional journals, such as 《Chinese Journal of Oral Science》,6 experts act as committeeman of professional committee of oral science. The department of oral and maxillofacial surgery is the key discipline of Central South University.

Xiang Ya Stomatological college undertakes the teaching task of 14 courses and clinical training allocated by Xiang Ya medical college, teaching hospitals, nursing college, medical technology ＆information college , continuing education college and others annually. The college enjoys a good teaching quality because it always strengthens teaching management and reform and put the most excellent experts in teaching, including a 100% lecturing by professors and associate professors annually, the extensive multimedia and double-language teaching methods.

The teaching bases own specialist’s clinics and many special disease clinics which include the department of endodontics, periodontics, oral mucosal diseases, pediatric dentistry and oral disease prevention, oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral orthodontics and orthognathic surgery, oral implantology, and oral prosthodontics. Abundant and diverse types of diseases guarantee the quality of teaching and clinical training. In order to improve the dental infection control to internal advanced level, 1 million RMB was spent on importing a set of advanced sterilization equipments from German. Additionally, a set of digital X-ray photographic system was applied for clinic, teaching and research. Many experts provide especially high level diagnosis and treatment in characteristic diseases, such as the oral submucosal fibrosis, the secondary deformity of cleft lip and palate, and the complicated denture.

55 research projects from National Science Foundation, Ministry of Health, the Scientific and Technological Committee and the Bureau of Health of Hunan Province are carrying on in recent years. Seven awards were granted by departments of State and Hunan province. The college has a strong academic relationship with over 10 nations and regions, such as United States, Japan, United Kingdom, Hongkong, and the faculties are encouraged to attend various academic conferences nationally and internationally. More than 400 academic articles were published in national and international professional periodicals, and 4 ones were “the excellent articles” granted by Ministry of Health and Hunan province.

The college is now stepping forward aggressively and confidently to meet the goal, which become the first class stomatological college in china.
